Johan Derksen Dismisses Ilse Warringa’s Critique of ‘today Inside’ as “Contemptuous” and Overblown
Television personality Johan derksen has sharply responded to actress Ilse Warringa’s dismissive comments about Today Inside, labeling the program a mere “talk show” and not “culture” during a recent appearance on Shownieuws. Derksen’s rebuttal, delivered on Today Inside itself, underscores a broader debate about the role of public broadcasting versus commercial channels in supporting culturally meaningful programming in the Netherlands.
Warringa, known for her success with the popular series De Luizen Moeder (The Head Lice Mother), had argued that her show wouldn’t have been possible without the support of the NPO (Netherlands Public Broadcasting). She asserted that commercial broadcasters like RTL or SBS wouldn’t have taken a risk on a program she characterized as ”cultural and artistic” and “outspoken.” When Shownieuws host Ronald Molendijk pointed out Today Inside’s own provocative nature,Warringa reportedly dismissed it with a gesture, stating it was “just a talk show” and not comparable to creating something original.
“Mrs. Warringa was chatting there,” derksen said on Today Inside, as reported by Mediacourant.nl. ”She did a nice job with De Luizen Moeder. I realy enjoyed that, but she is now talking as if she has won the biggest prize in Hollywood with a bestselling film. Well, it was about a soap opera, right?”
Fellow Today Inside panelist René van der Gijp chimed in, suggesting Warringa’s success doesn’t equate to creating a global phenomenon like friends. Derksen echoed this sentiment, questioning Warringa’s claim that public broadcasting is essential for series like De Luizen Moeder. ”Then I think: dude, what are you talking about?” he stated. Wilfred genee then asked if De Luizen Moeder could have aired on SBS, to which Derksen replied, ”yes, why not?”
Derksen went on to describe Warringa as “a weird chick,” while acknowledging her initial success. Though, he also criticized Today Inside itself, stating, “We are not a culture! We have a presenter here who only wants to sing ugly songs and then we have one who only wants to talk about football and one who keeps talking about wolves!” He concluded his critique by saying Warringa’s tone was “contemptuous” and that she “overestimates her own series a bit,” adding, “It was fun, nothing more than that. What came after was a complete failure.”
