Joey Essex Wins Exhausting Boxing Debut at Misfits 22, Collapses in Relief
MANCHESTER, England – Joey Essex dropped to his knees in exhaustion and relief after winning his professional boxing debut at Misfits 22 at the AO Arena in Manchester on Saturday, August 24th. The 35-year-old reality TV star secured the victory despite a grueling fight that left both he and his opponent visibly drained.
The event,dubbed “Ring of Thrones,” featured a card packed with UFC legends,Misfits boxing regulars,and fellow TOWIE star Demi Sims,who also made her boxing debut. Essex’s win came after a closely contested bout that went the distance,ultimately decided by the judges’ scorecards.
The fight concluded with a split decision, with one judge scoring a draw and two favoring Essex. Both fighters struggled to maintain their composure in the final rounds, barely able to raise their hands.Essex collapsed to the canvas upon hearing the proclamation, overcome with emotion and physical exertion.
Following the victory, Essex received immediate medical attention and was escorted away to recover, foregoing post-fight interviews due to exhaustion. His cousin,Demi Sims,also competed on the card,supported by her father Tony Sims,a renowned boxing coach who has trained Anthony Joshua and Conor Benn.
The Misfits 22 card was headlined by a clash between former UFC stars Darren Till and Luke Rockhold, and also featured Tony ferguson’s debut for the promotion against Salt Papi, and a return for Dillon Danis, Ty Mitchell, Chase DeMoor and Amir Anderson. The event was streamed live on DAZN.
