Former HFN President Endorses Jibrin saidu in Presidential Race
ABUJA - Dr. Lanre Glover, a former President of the Handball Federation of Nigeria (HFN), has publicly endorsed Jibrin Saidu as the next president of the federation, ahead of this month’s elections.Saidu is vying to succeed Samuel Ocheho, who has completed his two terms in office.
Glover stated that Saidu possesses the necessary capabilities to continue the progress made under Ocheho’s leadership. ”The outgoing President Sam Ocheho has done an excellent job bringing respectability to handball both locally and internationally.There is an crucial need to put someone in the position to continue the trajectory and that person is Jibrin Saidu,” Glover said.
The former HFN President, who also served as the first Vice President of the African Handball Confederation, highlighted Saidu’s dedication to handball development and his financial resources. he pointed to Saidu’s past support of the federation,recalling how he sponsored the national team during the 2015 Handball Nations Cup in Egypt when the then-President,the late dauda Yusuf,faced difficulties.
“He has sponsored several championships in Nigeria and singlehandedly sponsored the african Delegates meeting of the Commonwealth Handball association in Abuja,” Glover added. “He has the financial wherewithal and experience to propel handball to greater heights.”
Glover emphasized the importance of a strong successor to Ocheho, who he credited with considerably improving the federation’s fortunes. “I seize this opportunity to salute Ocheho for a job well done as he bows out,” he concluded.
