Jiahui Xiao – Beijing University of Chemical Technology Research
Beijing University of Chemical Technology (BUCT) has been approved to construct the National Key Laboratory of Effective Utilization of Chemical Resources, effective January 2025. The laboratory, previously a key laboratory at the provincial level, underwent a successful re-evaluation in September 2024, according to a statement released by the university.
The laboratory’s academic committee, comprised of 22 experts and scholars, is chaired by Professor Tian He, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, with Professor Song Yufeng serving as the laboratory director. The facility’s research focuses on the effective utilization of chemical resources, aligning with China’s strategic goals for a resource-efficient society.
BUCT’s research in this area is structured around three key areas: interlayer assembly and comprehensive utilization of inorganic chemical resources. controlled polymerization and effective utilization of petrochemical resources; and process intensification and high-value utilization of low-value resources. The university leverages its strengths in chemistry, chemical engineering, and materials science to foster interdisciplinary collaboration.
Over the past three years, BUCT has undertaken an increasing number of research projects, accumulating RMB 370 million in research funds. The university collaborates with numerous large organizations, including 10 projects with over RMB 10 million in funding, demonstrating the relevance of its research to current industries. The university similarly hosts several other key laboratories, including those focused on advanced functional polymer composites and fault prevention in hazardous chemical production systems.
Professor Ming Lei of BUCT’s College of Chemistry is affiliated with the State Key Lab of Chemical Resource Engineering and the Institute of Computational Chemistry. BUCT also operates National Engineering Laboratories for advanced municipal wastewater treatment and industrial big-data application technology, as well as Beijing Key Laboratories covering areas like transportation engineering, advanced functional materials, and trusted computing.
