Jerez parents petition against 1,300 euro school trip to Mallorca

Jerez parents petition against 1,300 euro school trip to Mallorca

October 28, 2026 Julia Evans – Entertainment Editor Entertainment

Parents of sixth-grade students at Colegio San José in Jerez, known locally as las Josefinas, have organized a petition against a proposed end-of-year class trip to Mallorca costing 1,300 euros per student, lavozdelsur.es reported. The five-day excursion scheduled for May 31 to June 4, 2027, has sparked concern among families who argue the price tag is excessive for eleven and twelve-year-old children and risks excluding classmates for financial reasons.

Mallorca Trip Costs 1,300 Euros per Person

The school’s proposal includes flights, ground transportation, and four nights at a four-star hotel with full board. The standard price is set at 1,300 euros per person in multiple rooms, dropping to 1,075 euros for members affiliated with Fundación Xafer. For comparison, lodging alone on Booking for those dates exceeds 150 euros per night per person. The documentation requires a minimum of 25 participants, with registrations taken on a strict first-come, first-served basis for a grade level comprising more than 40 students.

Financial obligations begin soon under the school’s payment schedule. Half of the total amount must be paid by November 5, 2026, while the second installment is due by February 15, 2027.

Family Objections and Financial Barriers

“The elevated cost of the trip impide que algunas familias afronten el desembolso sin comprometer otros gastos esenciales,” the petition notes, as reported by lavozdelsur.es. Additional financial strain comes from households with multiple children enrolled in the school facing simultaneous trips, such as Mallorca for younger siblings and Tenerife for older ones, alongside graduation fees and standard monthly contributions of 30 euros.

The petition also addresses safety concerns regarding island travel for children aged eleven and twelve. Families argue that potential injuries, illnesses, or early returns could generate unexpected transport and lodging expenses for relatives, noting that minor issues can quickly escalate into emergencies on an island.

Proposed Alternatives and Lower Budgets

Instead of the Mallorca itinerary, the writing group suggests exploring destinations within Andalusia or regions like Madrid with a target budget between 300 and 400 euros per student. This range aligns with comparable trips organized by similar private-subsidized schools in Jerez and matches previous editions of the Mallorca trip reported to have cost around 600 euros. If the Mallorca trip remains tied to mandatory Fundación Xafer delegate gatherings, families propose postponing the destination until students reach age fifteen or sixteen, giving households more time to plan financially.
