Comedian Jeon Yu-sung Remembered as a Pioneer Who “Wanted to Go Fast” – Funeral Held After Sudden Death
SEOUL, September 26, 2025 - Fellow comedian Seo Soo-nam shared poignant memories of the late Jeon Yu-sung today, revealing the beloved entertainer’s dedication to his craft and acknowledging a lack of self-care, following Yu-sung’s death at age 76. The funeral for Jeon yu-sung, a foundational figure in korean comedy, is currently being held at the Asan Hospital funeral hall in Seoul.
Seo Soo-nam, speaking to reporters at the funeral, recalled Jeon Yu-sung’s work ethic, stating, “I leave before my brother. I don’t know why I’m so sorry. Our meteor did not take care of his body. He abused his body. So it’s a pity.” He added that he spoke with Yu-sung the day before his passing and expressed regret that he couldn’t visit, noting, “It’s too bad.” Seo Soo-nam also shared that Yu-sung had once told him, “I want to go fast during the joke.”
jeon Yu-sung passed away at Chonbuk National university Hospital at 9:05 pm on September 25th.He debuted as a broadcaster on TBC in 1969, transitioning into comedy and becoming a key figure in the growth of the Korean gag world through appearances on programs like ’Humor 1,’ ‘Gag Concert,’ and ‘Good Friends.’ He was also known for discovering and mentoring new comedic talent.
A procession of notable figures attended the funeral, including comedians Shim Hyung-rae, Um Young-soo, Park mi-sun, Park Jun-hyung, Kim Ji-hye, Kim Joon-ho, Kim Ji-min, Kim Dae-hee, Yoo Min-sang, Kim Min-kyung, Hong yun-hwa, Ko Myung-hwan, Choi Yang-rak, Pang Hyunsook, jin Mi-ryeong, Lee Yun-seok, Kim Yong-man, ahn Jung-hwan, Jung Hyung-don, Kim Nam-il, Park Sung-kwang, and Jung Ho-young. Actor Park Joong-hoon and singer Cho Yong-pil also sent wreaths.
Beyond the entertainment industry,attendees included Minister of Culture,Sports and Tourism Choi Hwi-young,former SM Entertainment CEO lee Soo-man,KBS Korea Broadcasting President Park jang-bum,President of the President Kim Kyung-soo,MBC ’I Live Alone’ PD Jang Woo-sung,and Metacomedi CEO Jung Young-joon.
The ceremony and signing will be held at 7 am on September 28th at KBS in Yeouido,Seoul,followed by interment in Inwol-myeon,Namwon-si,Jeonbuk.
