Rissveds Claims Eighth Victory of Season at Lake Placid world Cup
LAKE PLACID, NY – Jenny Rissveds continued her dominant run, securing her eighth victory since July with a win in the Olympic Distance race at the Lake Placid World Cup on Sunday. The 31-year-old Swede finished 2 minutes adn 16 seconds ahead of Great Britain’s Evie Richards and 2 minutes and 31 seconds ahead of World Cup leader samara Maxwell of New Zealand.
Rissveds’ recent success follows a Friday victory in the short distance event, where she edged Richards by two seconds and Swiss rider Alessandra Keller by five. This latest win marks her largest victory margin in 14 years, surpassing that of French cyclist Pauline Ferrand-Prévot.
“But the most vital thing is too be healthy,” Rissveds stated in a post-race interview. “I have realized that it is indeed very critically important, as well as to enjoy the trip.”
The Olympic gold medalist from 2016 has experienced a resurgence this season, overcoming past challenges with depression and eating disorders. She secured two European golds in Portugal before her World Cup successes,including a silver and gold at the World Cup in Switzerland in September – her first World Cup gold. She followed that with another win in Switzerland and second-place finishes in Lenzerheide.
Rissveds established a lead on the first lap and steadily extended it, building a 2 minute and 48 second advantage by the start of the seventh and final lap.She also voiced support for Ferrand-Prévot amidst recent scrutiny regarding weight loss, stating, “She doesn’t deserve the shit she got. You should respect her.”
The World cup season will conclude next week in Mont-Sainte-Anne, Canada.
