Jeff Hiller has been awarded the Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series at Sunday night’s ceremony, marking his first win after a 25-year pursuit of an acting career. Hiller secured the victory for his role as Joel in the HBO comedy series “Somebody Somewhere.”
The win recognizes Hiller’s performance alongside Bridget Everett, whose character Sam is central to the show’s exploration of connection and compassion. This Emmy is notably notable as it’s Hiller’s first nomination and win,following previous recognition for the series including a 2022 Peabody Award for the “Somebody Somewhere” team and a 2022 Autonomous spirit Award nomination for Hiller himself.
“I feel like I’m going to cry, because for the past 25 years I have been like, world, I want to be an actor! And the world was like, maybe computers,” hiller said during his acceptance speech. He went on to express gratitude to HBO,the Duplass brothers (the show’s writers),his husband and family,and especially Bridget Everett,stating,”You changed my life and you told so many people to believe in themselves,and they do.”
Hiller’s win came against a competitive field of nominees including last year’s winner, Ebon Moss-Bachrach (“The Bear”), as well as Harrison Ford (“Shrinking”), Ike Barinholtz (“The Studio”), Bowen Yang (“Saturday night Live”), Michael Urie (“Shrinking”), and Colman Domingo (“Four Seasons”).
“somebody Somewhere” also stars Mary Catherine Garrison, murray Hill, and Tim Bagley. Hiller’s previous television credits include appearances in “American Horror Story: NYC,” “American Horror Stories,” “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt,” and others. The 77th Emmy Awards were hosted by Nate Bargatze and aired on CBS and streamed on Paramount+.
