New Documentary Trailer Highlights Jeff Buckley‘s Musical Genius and Personal Struggles

A newly released trailer for the documentary It’s Never Over offers a compelling look at the life and legacy of the late jeff Buckley, showcasing his remarkable vocal talent and the complex personal struggles that marked his brief but impactful career. The film is set to premiere in U.S.theaters on August 8th and will later be available on HBO and HBO Max as part of the Music Box series during the winter.Buckley,who tragically drowned in Memphis in 1997 at the age of 30 while working on the follow-up to his acclaimed 1994 debut album,Grace,is remembered by contemporaries as one of the greatest singers of his generation. Singer-songwriter Aimee Mann is featured in the trailer, calling him “literally the best singer I ever heard.”

the documentary, which premiered at Sundance earlier this year after years of development, features interviews with key figures in Buckley’s life, including his mother, Mary Guibert, bandmates Michael Tighe and Parker Kindred, former partners Rebecca Moore and Joan Wasser, and fellow musicians like Mann and Ben Harper.

The trailer also touches upon Buckley’s complicated relationship with his father, the legendary folk singer Tim Buckley, whom he knew little of as a child. In one poignant moment, Buckley is shown stating, “my main influences: love, anger, depression and Zeppelin.”

Beyond his musical prowess, the film delves into a more introspective and fatalistic side of Buckley’s personality. He is quoted as saying, “I’ve been wrong, I’ve been entirely ugly, I’ve been gorgeous, I’ve been totally in love, I’ve been hideous, but I’ve never been dead.” Wasser recalls him confiding, “I have to tell you something about me. I’m not gonna last that long.”

It’s Never Over is produced by director Amy Berg alongside Ryan Heller, Christine Connor, Mandy Chang, Matthew Roozen, and Jennie Bedusa. Notably, Brad Pitt is among the executive producers, having initially approached guibert years ago about a potential biopic.
