JB Online Seller Charged Over RM41,000 Hermes Handbag Scam
Christina Tseu Cheau Wei, a 36-year-old online trader, pleaded not guilty in the Johor Baru Magistrate’s Court to charges of cheating a buyer over the purchase of a luxury handbag.
The court heard that Tseu allegedly deceived 53-year-old Teh Ann Na into transferring RM41,288 into her bank account for a Hermes Mini Lindy handbag that did not exist. The transaction is alleged to have occurred at 11:31 a.m. On August 26 of last year at Laguna Heights Condominium.
Tseu has been charged under Section 417 of the Penal Code for cheating. Upon conviction, the charge carries a potential penalty of up to five years’ imprisonment, a fine, or both.
During the hearing, Deputy Public Prosecutor Nur Fatihah Mohd Nizam requested that bail be set at RM10,000. However, defense lawyer Jason Tan Ka Yan urged the court to impose a lower amount, citing the accused’s personal and financial circumstances.
Tan informed the court that Tseu is the provider for her two children, aged 12 and 17, and her mother, who is suffering from blood cancer. He further stated that as an online trader, the accused earns an irregular income.
Magistrate A. Shaarmini set bail at RM4,000 with one surety. The court fixed June 9 for the next mention.
