CHICAGO – Chicago Bears Pro Bowl cornerback Jaylon Johnson is expected to miss an undetermined amount of time due to a groin injury sustained during Sunday’s game against the Detroit Lions, sources confirmed to ESPN.
Johnson, 26, left the second quarter of the 52-21 loss to Detroit after making a diving pass breakup and receiving medical attention. He subsequently went to the locker room.
This is not the first groin issue for Johnson this season. He initially injured his groin during offseason training, telling “The Pivot” podcast he tore his adductor off his pelvic bone. He began the season on the non-football injury list and missed the Bears’ Week 1 game against the Minnesota Vikings, and also all of training camp and the preseason.
Bears coach Ben Johnson stated after the game he believed both Johnson and linebacker T.J. Edwards, who also exited with a hamstring injury, had re-aggravated injuries that kept them out of Week 1. The team is currently evaluating the full extent of Johnson’s injury and whether surgery will be required.
The Bears defense allowed a season-high 52 points, the most surrendered since 2014. Detroit averaged 8.8 yards per play, the highest rate Chicago has allowed in a single game since 1961.
