Green Bay Packers wide receiver Jayden Reed will be sidelined for a meaningful portion of the season after suffering a broken collarbone during Thursday night’s game against the Washington Commanders. the injury occurred on a 39-yard reception that was ultimately negated by a holding penalty.
The loss of Reed,a key contributor to the Packers’ offense, presents a challenge as the team aims to build on a promising start to the season. Head coach Matt lafleur stated, ”He’s going to miss a lot of time…Unfortunately, he broke his collarbone, so he’ll be down for quite some time.” LaFleur expressed optimism about a potential return later in the year but acknowledged the immediate impact, describing Reed as “a catalyst for our offense and our football team.”
Reed,25,was selected by the Packers in the second round of the 2023 NFL draft and quickly established himself as a primary target. Last season, he led the team with 55 receptions for 857 yards.
Despite Reed’s absence, LaFleur indicated confidence in the depth of the Packers’ receiving corps, anticipating opportunities for other players to step up. “Fortunately for us I feel like we have a pretty deep wide receiver room and there’s going to be opportunities there for other guys to step up and take advantage of it,” he said. The team will evaluate recovery timelines as Reed begins his rehabilitation.
