LANDOVER, MD – Regina Jackson, mother of washington Commanders quarterback jayden Daniels, publicly urged fans to refrain from drawing parallels between her son’s injury history and that of former Commanders quarterback Robert Griffin III, following Daniels’ hamstring injury sustained during Sunday’s 44-22 loss to the Dallas Cowboys.
Daniels exited the game in the third quarter after being stripped of the ball by Cowboys defensive end Jadeveon Clowney. he was subsequently ruled out for the remainder of the game, and head coach Dan Quinn stated Daniels would undergo an MRI on Monday.
Jackson expressed her concern on X, formerly Twitter, writing, “I wish you would stop manifesting RGIII on my son,” and adding, “Words are powerful and that’s all that’s talked about.”
The comparison stems from shared career trajectories: both Daniels and Griffin won the Heisman Trophy, were selected second overall by the Commanders in their respective NFL Drafts, and earned NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year honors.
Griffin, who responded to Jackson’s post, affirmed his support for Daniels, stating,”I always supported Jayden Daniels and wont nothing but the best for him…Being QB1 in Washington,D.C. comes with an intense spotlight that I know well.” He added,”I want a long healthy career for him. He will always have my support.”
Daniels completed 12 of 22 passes for 156 yards and one touchdown, and rushed for 35 yards and another score, before the injury. Sunday’s game marked his third start as returning from a left knee injury suffered in a Week 2 loss to the Green Bay Packers.
The Commanders (3-4) are scheduled to play the Kansas City Chiefs on “Monday Night Football” in Week 8.
