Jassem Al-Huwaidi says Al-Nassr first negotiated for him before Al-Hilal move
Former Kuwaiti international striker Jassem Al-Huwaidi revealed that Al-Nassr was the first club to open formal negotiations for his signature, before an intervention by Prince Al-Waleed bin Talal redirected him to Al-Hilal in a deal valued at approximately $350,000 during a 29-year-old career milestone. Speaking during an appearance on the “Ma’a Turki” podcast on the “Nabd Tuwaiq” channel, Al-Huwaidi detailed the fierce domestic battle for his transfer following an impressive performance at the Abha Summer Championship where he scored twice against the Riyadh-based side.
The Pursuit by Al-Nassr and Prince Faisal bin Abdulrahman
Al-Huwaidi stated that he received three separate phone calls from Prince Faisal bin Abdulrahman to convince him to move to Al-Nassr. Despite the forward notifying the club leadership that he could not exit without an official release from his current club, negotiations continued. During a final call in July, Al-Huwaidi informed Prince Faisal that he was wasting his time, a delay caused primarily by Al-Nassr concurrently evaluating a South American alternative.

Al-Hilal’s Rapid Intervention and Prince Al-Waleed bin Talal’s Funding
Shortly after the breakdown in talks with Al-Nassr, Al-Hilal stepped in through the late Prince Bandar bin Mohammed, who informed the player that he would travel to Kuwait to finalize the paperwork. Unlike the protracted discussions with their city rivals, negotiations with Al-Hilal lasted roughly an hour. The club handed Al-Huwaidi a blank check to write his desired figure, securing his services for roughly $350,000 in base transfer fees excluding personal wages.
The financial backing for the transaction came directly from Prince Al-Waleed bin Talal, who covered the entire fee as a gift to the Al-Hilal fanbase, known locally as the “Leaders.” Al-Huwaidi discovered the origin of the funding during a meeting between his father, Prince Bandar, and the club hierarchy, interrupted by a telephone call from Prince Al-Waleed to confirm the financial arrangements.
