Jamie Lee Curtis: Fame Harder on Marriage Than Kids
Jamie Lee Curtis has spoken candidly about the impact of her celebrity on her family life, revealing that her fame may have presented more challenges for her marriage than for her children. The actress, known for her roles in the “Halloween” franchise and “A Fish Called Wanda,” shared her thoughts in a recent interview with Bustle, as reported by multiple outlets.
Curtis, 67, who has been married to actor and director Christopher Guest since 1984, explained that while she was often viewed as a sex symbol early in her family life, she maintained a sense of normalcy at home. “You know what? It’s a job. I live a very quiet, private life,” she said. “I don’t bring my work home with me. I would never walk around in a dress like that in my real life. I’m just not that person.”
The actress suggested that the attention surrounding her image may have been more difficult for her husband to navigate. “It’s probably harder for my husband than It’s for my children,” Curtis stated. “It’s hard for a marriage—when your asset is often your appearance, in a scantily clad way. That must create a certain level of tension in a relationship.” She added with a touch of humor, “So far, we’ve managed… but I’m at the end of the road.”
Curtis and Guest are parents to two daughters, Annie, 39, and Ruby, 30, both adopted. The interview also touched on the difficulties of balancing motherhood and a demanding career when her children were young. “The pull of being a parent is very hard to reconcile, and I didn’t reconcile it well,” Curtis admitted. “I would cry going to work, and then I would work for twelve hours straight, and then I would drive an hour home, and often my baby was asleep. That’s the dance I had to do.”
She acknowledged the privilege of having roles that allowed for relatively short filming schedules. “Luckily, my jobs are short-term, which allows me to work for three months and then have time off. A lot of people don’t have that luxury,” Curtis said.
Curtis recently joined fellow actors in paying tribute to Robert Duvall following his death on February 15th at the age of 95. Adam Sandler and Alec Baldwin also shared their memories of the acclaimed actor, as reported by AOL.com. Duvall and Curtis co-starred in the 2022 film “Hustle.”
