Jackson Chourio ties MLB postseason RBI record for under-23s, says EL NACIONAL
Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Jackson Chourio tied the historical Major League Baseball postseason record for runs batted in by a player under the age of 23, driving in 17 runs during a victory over the San Diego Padres, EL NACIONAL reported.
Chourio matches Andruw Jones’ historic pace
At 22 years and 210 days old, Chourio became the second-youngest player to reach 17 RBIs in October. The benchmark was previously held solely by Andruw Jones, who reached the total during the 1999 postseason at 22 years and 179 days old. Chourio reached the mark significantly faster, needing only 16 games compared to the 41 games it took Jones.
Milwaukee advances to the National League Championship Series
The Brewers secured a 3-1 series victory over San Diego to advance to the National League Championship Series, where they will face the Los Angeles Dodgers in a best-of-seven series starting Sunday, October 11. Chourio batted .188 during the division series against San Diego, collecting three hits in 19 at-bats, including one home run and six RBIs.
In the second game of the series, Chourio delivered a walk-off single with the bases loaded against San Diego closer Mason Miller to drive in two runs. Across his three major league seasons, the Venezuelan outfielder has established a .300 career postseason batting average, featuring eight extra-base hits, five home runs, 17 RBIs, and an .933 OPS.
Chourio Sets Brewers Franchise Record for Postseason RBIs
Chourio’s 17 postseason RBIs set a new absolute record for the Milwaukee Brewers franchise. He surpassed the previous franchise mark of 16 RBIs held by Ryan Braun, which Braun accumulated across 27 postseason games. With the Brewers advancing to face the Dodgers for the National League pennant, Chourio holds the opportunity to claim the under-23 postseason RBI record outright.
