Former Supercars driver Jack Smith will race for Garry Rogers Motorsport (GRM) in the 2026 Trans Am Series, marking a continuation of his transition to the category and a significant driver signing for the two-time championship-winning team.
Smith competed in the Trans Am Series in 2025, supported by TFH Racing, before making the move to GRM for the upcoming season. The switch will also see him piloting a Chevrolet Camaro, as GRM has moved away from its previous use of Ford Mustangs in the series. The announcement was made on February 17, 2026.
“GRM have been quite the standard in Trans Am for a number of years, and I was really drawn to the professionalism and level of the team,” Smith said. “In the last few years GRM have been extremely consistent across all their drivers. They’ve been at the front and I’m looking forward to fitting in to that, working with the rest of the team and challenging them.”
GRM enjoyed a successful 2025 season, securing six race wins and three pole positions, with Supercars star James Golding finishing third in the championship standings. Smith will join a four-car lineup at GRM, with the remaining drivers yet to be announced.
GRM Director Barry Rogers highlighted the team’s long-standing interest in Smith’s career. “Dad (Garry) and I first met the Smith family in New Zealand, and I think it was 2015 and Jack was racing a Super Tourer,” Rogers explained. “Dad immediately took a liking to Peter (Jack’s dad) as he stood at the back of the paddock smoking a cigar.” He added, “When Jack left Supercars we were keen to run him in a Trans Am and show him how much fun motorsport can be and we are certainly looking forward to working hard with him this year and making motorsport fun again!”
The Trans Am Series calendar has expanded to include five events alongside the Supercars Championship in 2026, a development Smith welcomed. “As far as coverage goes, and for SCT in particular it’s great to have the big events on the calendar,” he stated. “It’s also an advantage for me, I realize all the tracks well that are on the calendar and enjoy them. Really looking forward to having a great year.”
The 2026 Trans Am season is scheduled to commence at the Hi-Tec Oils Bathurst 6 Hour from April 3-5.
