Jack Osbourne Defends Late Father Ozzy Osbourne Against Roger Waters‘ Criticism
LOS ANGELES – Jack Osbourne has publicly defended his late father, ozzy Osbourne, against recent disparaging remarks made by former Pink Floyd frontman Roger Waters.Waters ignited controversy earlier this month by calling Ozzy a “dimwit” and dismissing his musical contributions during a recent interview.
The exchange underscores a long-simmering tension between the artists, but gained renewed attention following Ozzy Osbourne’s death on January 5, 2024, at age 76 after a lengthy battle with Parkinson’s disease. Jack Osbourne responded to Waters’ comments in a post on X (formerly twitter) stating, “Elevating yourself by knocking down a 75 year old man who has battled addiction and Parkinson’s is pretty low, even for you.” He further added, ”My dad is a titan. You’re a sad little man.”
Waters’ criticism, initially reported by The Telegraph, centered on Ozzy’s influence and perceived lack of musical talent. He claimed Ozzy’s success was largely manufactured and that he “never contributed anything of substance to music.”
The Osbourne family has largely remained private in the wake of Ozzy’s passing, with Sharon osbourne, Kelly Osbourne, and Jack Osbourne publicly mourning their loss. The funeral was held on March 1,2024,in Birmingham,England, with a procession passing the Black Sabbath bench unveiled in 2019.
Ozzy Osbourne, renowned as the “Prince of Darkness,” achieved global fame as the lead vocalist of Black Sabbath, pioneering the heavy metal genre. Throughout his career, he sold over 100 million records and influenced generations of musicians. In 2011, Osbourne shared his wishes for his funeral in a “Dear Ozzy” column for The Times, requesting a festivity of life rather than a somber occasion, even suggesting pranks and a lighthearted atmosphere.
