Vikings Quarterback J.J. McCarthy Welcomes Son, Rome Micah McCarthy
MINNEAPOLIS – Minnesota Vikings quarterback J.J. McCarthy and his fiancée,Katya Kuropas, have announced the birth of their son,Rome Micah McCarthy,on Friday. The arrival of their first child comes shortly after McCarthy’s impressive NFL debut on Monday night, where he lead the Vikings to a 27-24 comeback victory over the Chicago Bears.
McCarthy, the No. 10 overall selection in the 2024 NFL Draft, was able to participate in team activities, including game planning and practice, earlier this week before leaving the team facility Thursday morning to be with Kuropas as she prepared for labor. The couple shared in May that they were expecting a baby in September, timing that allowed McCarthy to experiance his first NFL action before becoming a father.
head coach Kevin O’Connell confirmed McCarthy’s departure Thursday, noting he had attended meetings that morning before joining Kuropas. Despite the personal milestone, McCarthy is expected to start in Sunday night’s game against the Atlanta Falcons at U.S. Bank Stadium.
Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson expressed his excitement for McCarthy, saying after Thursday’s practice, “If you seeing this now, congratulations my boy, congratulations. I’m excited for him for this new chapter, this new journey. But after you get done, come on back!”
McCarthy missed his entire rookie season due to a torn meniscus in his right knee. His debut performance, accounting for three touchdowns in the fourth quarter, signaled a promising start to his NFL career.
