**Venables** Faces Make-or-Break Season at Oklahoma

After a rocky start with the **Oklahoma Sooners**, coach **Brent Venables** is under pressure to turn things around. Coming off a 2024 season that didn’t meet expectations, the upcoming season could determine his future with the program.

Analyst Voices Concerns

**Eddie Radosevich**, an On3 analyst, recently shared his thoughts on **Venables**’ tenure. He expressed disappointment in the team’s performance, noting that two losing seasons in the past three years are “a big disappointment for Oklahoma.”

“And with everything that went into last year and the move to the SEC and that first run through … Texas getting to a college football semi-final in back-to-back seasons, it’s kind of raised the expectations even more than they usually are for Oklahoma football, and it hasn’t gone well,”

The **Sooners**’ struggles last season, including quarterback performance issues, have put **Venables** on the hot seat. According to data from the NCAA, the average tenure for a college football head coach is just over five years, meaning **Venables** needs a strong showing to secure his position (NCAA 2023).

Optimism Despite Pressure

Despite the challenges, **Radosevich** noted a sense of optimism surrounding **Venables**. Even with his job on the line, there’s a belief he can steer the program in the right direction.

“But at the same time, there’s a certain sense of optimism, a certain level of confidence coming out of the 2024 season that you just wouldn’t have expected … when you’re looking at coaches on the hot seat going into next year, **Brent Venables** is certainly in that discussion, but there is a certain level of positivity right now,”

Several offseason moves have fueled this optimism. These include hiring **Ben Arbuckle** as the new offensive coordinator and bringing in quarterback **John Mateer** via the transfer portal.

Defensive Play-Calling Change

**Venables** is also set to take over the play-calling duties on defense, a role where he previously excelled as Clemson’s defensive coordinator. This change has generated excitement among fans and analysts alike.

With key changes to his coaching staff and a renewed focus, **Brent Venables** aims to lead the **Oklahoma Sooners** to a successful 2025 season and solidify his position as head coach.
