Italy Mexico Trade Reaches Near 8 Billion Through August According To Data
Total trade volume between Italy and Mexico reached $7.97 billion during the first eight months of 2026, marking an 8.63% increase compared to the same period in the previous year, according to figures released by the central bank of Mexico and reported by puntodincontro.mx. Despite the overall positive trajectory for the year, economic data shows a distinct deceleration during the summer months.
Trade Growth and Structural Surplus Through August
The bilateral economic exchange maintains a firmly positive trend overall in 2026, though growth slowed as the summer progressed. Between January and August, the total volume of business climbed close to the $8 billion threshold. Puntodincontro.mx noted that the trade balance remains structurally in favor of the European nation.
Italian exports to Mexico accounted for the vast majority of that total. From January through August 2026, Italian sales reached $6.66 billion, representing a 5.32% annual increase. Meanwhile, Mexican exports destined for Italy totaled one billion and 313 million dollars during the same timeframe. This marked a significant 29.17% surge compared to performance in 2025.

August Slowdown Across Both Export Markets
Analyzing the month of August alone reveals a general market brake on commercial activity. Total trade for the month stalled at $912 million, dropping by more than eight percentage points on an annual basis. Italian exports fell to $868 million in August, reflecting a contraction of roughly 5% compared to the same month last year.
Mexican sales to Italy experienced an even steeper decline during the same monthly window. Export shipments from the North American country dropped to 43 million and 822 thousand dollars in August. That result translates to a 48% drop compared to the over $84 million recorded twelve months prior, marking a temporary reversal from the strong dynamism seen earlier in the year.
