Father of Istanbul Prosecutor’s Alleged Killer Warned Son of Imprisonment Before Tragedy
Istanbul – The father of Mustafa Can Gül, the primary suspect in the murder of Public Prosecutor Ercan Kayhan, reportedly warned his son, “Enough, you will go to prison,” in the period leading up to the tragic event. This revelation, shared by İsmail Hakkı Gül, offers a chilling glimpse into the deteriorating relationship between father and son before the alleged crime.
According to statements given to show Haber, Gül described a long-standing relationship between his son and Prosecutor Kayhan.Mustafa Can Gül began working with Kayhan at the age of 13, and the prosecutor reportedly took the young man under his wing, raising him “like his own son.” Though, Gül claims this close bond fractured over time.
The tension, Gül alleges, stemmed from a dispute involving mustafa Can’s girlfriend. She reportedly requested financial assistance from Prosecutor Kayhan, and when that request was denied, it escalated into a conflict. The inability to secure the desired compensation reportedly deepened the rift.
Gül detailed a concerning decline in his son’s behavior following the breakdown of his relationship with the prosecutor. Mustafa Can Gül began isolating himself, moving into a separate room adjacent to the family home. He reportedly ceased addressing his parents as “father” and “mother,” and stopped responding to their calls. This period also saw the onset of alcohol and drug use, according to his father.
Despite the growing distance and concerning behavior, Gül attempted to intervene. He recounts issuing a direct warning to his son: “Enough now, I said you will enter the prison.” However, these efforts proved unsuccessful. Gül stated that on the night of the murder, Mustafa Can Gül shared a final dinner with his family before retreating to his room.
