body of Israeli-Argentinian Hostage Lior Rudaeff Returned from gaza
Gaza/Jerusalem – The Israeli military has confirmed the identification of the body of Lior Rudaeff, an Israeli-Argentinian citizen, which was returned from Gaza by Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ). Rudaeff,61,was killed defending the Nir Yitzhak kibbutz during the Hamas-led attacks on southern Israel on October 7,2023,and his body had been held by PIJ as that time.
The return of Rudaeff’s remains marks a somber progress in the ongoing hostage negotiations between Israel and Hamas. While 20 living hostages have been released and 23 deceased hostages returned under the initial phase of a ceasefire deal brokered in October, significant numbers remain unaccounted for. Currently, four israelis and one Thai national are still confirmed as deceased hostages held in gaza.
Hamas has faced criticism for the slow pace of returning bodies, citing the difficulties of locating remains amidst the rubble in Gaza. PIJ, an ally of hamas, participated in the October 7th attacks and previously held Israeli hostages. They reported discovering Rudaeff’s body in Khan Younis on Friday.
