Isaac Paredes Reports to Rays Spring Training | West Palm Beach News

February 16, 2026 Lucas Fernandez – World Editor World

Isaac Paredes, the Houston Astros’ third baseman, reported to spring training in West Palm Beach, Florida, on Sunday, despite ongoing trade speculation surrounding his future with the team. His arrival, ahead of the official start of workouts for position players on Monday, underscores a complex situation as the Astros evaluate potential moves to address a crowded infield.

Paredes’ presence at camp was, according to reports, unexpected given the persistent rumors linking him to other teams throughout the offseason. The Astros have yet to find a trade offer they deem suitable, leaving Paredes in a state of uncertainty. He is under contract with Houston for the 2026 season, earning $9.35 million, with a $13.5 million team option for 2027, a factor that complicates potential deals.

Speaking to the media Sunday, Paredes acknowledged the trade talk but emphasized his focus remains on performing on the field. “I only control what I do on the field,” he said through an interpreter. “That’s the part I’m focused on. Whatever they’re going to do, that’s out of my control. That’s what leadership and management is going to do.”

Astros manager Joe Espada has reportedly been in regular communication with Paredes during the offseason, though he has declined to disclose the content of those conversations. Though, Paredes stated he had not directly discussed his potential future with Espada or General Manager Dana Brown. This discrepancy in accounts adds to the sense of tension surrounding the situation.

The Astros’ infield is currently crowded, creating a surplus of players vying for playing time. Paredes’ versatility and offensive potential build him a valuable asset, but also a logical trade candidate for a team seeking a power-hitting infielder. The team has not publicly indicated its intentions regarding Paredes, leaving his status unresolved as spring training begins.

All-Star infielder Yordan Alvarez also reported to Astros camp on Sunday, further complicating the team’s roster decisions. The Astros are currently sorting through their infield options as they prepare for the upcoming season.
