Iran War News: Access Denied – Telegraph Error

March 30, 2026 Emma Walker – News Editor News

Washington — The Pentagon is preparing for potential weeks of ground operations in Iran, according to multiple sources within the Defense Department, as President Trump continues to weigh options in the escalating conflict. The preparations include detailed planning for the possible detention of Iranian soldiers and paramilitary operatives, should ground troops be deployed.

Senior military commanders have submitted specific requests to facilitate such a deployment, sources said, as Mr. Trump deliberates positioning ground forces in the region. While publicly downplaying the possibility, the President offered a characteristically ambiguous response when questioned by reporters on Thursday. “No, I’m not putting troops anywhere,” he stated, before immediately adding, “If I were, I certainly wouldn’t tell you.”

U.S. Central Command has deferred inquiries to the White House, and Pentagon. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt issued a statement emphasizing that Pentagon preparations are standard procedure to provide the Commander in Chief with “maximum optionality,” but affirmed that President Trump “is not planning to send ground troops anywhere at this time.”

The planning extends to the deployment of elements of the 82nd Airborne Division to the Middle East, alongside the Army’s Global Response Force and Marine Expeditionary Units. Approximately 2,200 Marines, accompanied by three warships, departed California earlier this week, according to U.S. Officials. This movement of forces suggests a significant escalation in the U.S. Military posture in the region.

The preparations for potential ground operations come as the U.S. Considers a “crushing show of force” to conclude the fighting, with some officials believing this could create leverage in potential peace talks, or simply provide President Trump with a decisive outcome. The conflict has intensified in recent days, with Iran launching missiles across the Middle East earlier this week, prompting Mr. Trump to state that negotiations to end the war were ongoing.

The scale of the preparations suggests a potential operation significantly more dangerous to U.S. Forces than previous engagements in the region. The Pentagon’s planning includes logistical considerations for handling captured Iranian personnel, indicating an expectation of potential direct combat.

As of Monday, March 30, 2026, the White House has not publicly authorized the deployment of ground troops to Iran, and the situation remains fluid. Further meetings are scheduled within the Pentagon to refine operational plans and assess the potential risks and benefits of various courses of action.
