Iran Peace Deal: US & Israel Signal Shift in Middle East Conflict

March 24, 2026 Lucas Fernandez – World Editor World

U.S. President Donald Trump stated on Monday that Iran “wants to make a deal” to end the ongoing conflict, even as Tehran dismissed the claim as “fake news.” The announcement came as the U.S. And Israel signaled openness to potential negotiations, marking a possible shift in a war that has entered its 23rd day.

Trump’s comments, made to reporters, followed reports of back-channel communications between U.S. Envoys and an unnamed “respected” Iranian leader. Iranian officials, but, swiftly rejected the assertion of ongoing talks. According to Al Jazeera, Iran’s Revolutionary Guard labeled Trump a “deceitful American president” and accused him of “contradictory behaviour.”

The conflict, which began after the October 2023 outbreak of war between Israel and Hamas, has significantly escalated tensions in the Middle East. The U.S. And Israel have both threatened increased aerial attacks against Iran, although Iran has retaliated with missile strikes against Israel. On Saturday, an Iranian missile struck the southern Israeli city of Arad, injuring at least 84 people, including ten seriously, and another hit Dimona, damaging a building.

Trump had previously issued a 48-hour ultimatum to Iran, demanding the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, a critical waterway for global energy resources. He threatened to “hit and obliterate” Iran’s power plants if the demand was not met. Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, Iran’s Parliament Speaker, responded with a warning that critical infrastructure across the Middle East could be “irreversibly destroyed” if Iranian power plants were targeted.

The potential for escalation remains high. CNN reported that Iran has vowed a “heavy retaliation” should Trump follow through on his threat to bomb Iranian power plants. The situation is further complicated by the ongoing disruption of shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, which Iran’s actions appear to be leveraging.

As of Tuesday, no formal negotiations have been announced, and Iranian officials continue to deny direct communication with the U.S. Government. The White House has not responded to requests for further details regarding the alleged back-channel talks or the identity of the Iranian leader involved.
