Iran Nuclear Plant Hit: Israel, US Accused | Cyprus, India & War Updates

March 21, 2026 Lucas Fernandez – World Editor World

Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization reported that the Natanz uranium enrichment facility was targeted in a strike carried out jointly by the United States and Israel early Saturday, March 21, 2026. The organization stated that no radioactive material was released as a result of the attack.

The reported strike comes as tensions remain high in the region. Iran’s state-run Mehr News Agency reported that Tehran responded by launching two ballistic missiles toward a joint Anglo-American base on the island of Diego Garcia in the Indian Ocean, located 3,810 kilometers from Iran.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) stated to the Jerusalem Post that it was not aware of any Israeli strike targeting Natanz. Despite this denial, Iranian authorities have directly attributed the attack to both the U.S. And Israel.

The Natanz facility, a heavily fortified hub for uranium enrichment, has been a frequent target of alleged attacks. Recent satellite imagery, dated March 7, 2026, shows a destroyed vehicle at the Pickaxe Mountain facility within the Natanz complex.

Separately, the IDF reported engaging with Hezbollah forces in southern Lebanon, resulting in four fatalities.

The United Kingdom has affirmed that it will not utilize its bases in Cyprus for offensive actions against Iran, according to a statement from the Cypriot government following a conversation between British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides. The statement indicated a commitment to strengthening preventative measures already in place. A Shahed-type Iranian drone caused minor damage to structures at the British Akrotiri air base in southern Cyprus on March 2nd, with two subsequent drones being intercepted.

Reports indicate that Indian refineries are considering resuming purchases of Iranian oil, with other Asian refineries evaluating similar actions following the temporary lifting of some sanctions by Washington to address the energy crisis stemming from the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

A political official in Israel, cited by Ynet, stated that the conflict with Iran will continue for weeks, with a planned extension of at least two more weeks. Security officials anticipate that the focus will remain on Iran, while military operations in Lebanon are expected to intensify, with Hezbollah facing “hard blows” and significant damage to its missile and rocket capabilities. The goal, according to these officials, is to push Hezbollah’s forces back beyond the Litani River.
