Philip Morris Japan (PMJ) launched its first capsule-equipped heated tobacco product, the SENTIA Purple Capsule, on March 2, 2026, for use with the IQOS ILUMA device. The new offering, initially available at IQOS stores across Japan, will expand to convenience stores and other tobacco retailers beginning April 6, coinciding with the relocation of the Nagoya IQOS store on March 7.
The SENTIA Purple Capsule features a menthol-infused blueberry flavor released when the capsule within the stick is crushed. Daniel Sevsick, portfolio marketing director at Philip Morris Japan, stated this is the first menthol capsule product in the SENTIA line. The product’s color is designed to evoke the blueberry flavor profile.
With the addition of the Purple Capsule, the SENTIA lineup now comprises 18 distinct brands, encompassing regular, menthol, flavored, and capsule varieties. The 20-stick pack is priced at 530 yen ($3.34) until March 31, increasing to 570 yen ($3.59) from April 1.
The launch of the SENTIA Purple Capsule follows recent expansions to PMJ’s product portfolio. In February 2026, PMJ introduced a blueberry menthol capsule flavor to its SENTIA tobacco stick lineup, and as well launched the TEREA “Shine Pearl” variant for the IQOS ILUMA. Fumo Japan, a related entity, also expanded its SENTIA Vape line with a blueberry mint flavor.
PMJ previously launched its first IQOS capsule in February 2026.
