iOS 26.4: New Features, Apple Music Updates & iOS 27 AI Preview
iOS 26.4 Released with AI-Powered Music Features, New Emoji
Apple has officially released iOS 26.4 for iPhone, delivering a range of new features and improvements focused on Apple Music, accessibility, and system enhancements. The update, available as of Tuesday, March 24, 2026, arrives without the anticipated overhaul of Siri, which remains unchanged.
Apple Music Enhancements
A key addition in iOS 26.4 is Playlist Playground, an AI-powered playlist creation tool currently limited to users in the United States. The feature allows users to generate playlists based on text prompts describing desired moods, genres, or artists. Apple’s AI then compiles a list of 25 songs, complete with a custom title. Existing playlists can also be edited using the AI tool.
Beyond Playlist Playground, Apple Music gains a “Concerts Near You” feature, partnering with companies like Ticketmaster to support users discover live shows from artists in their library and recommend new artists based on listening habits. The update also introduces Offline Music Recognition, allowing users to identify songs using Shazam even without an internet connection, with results appearing automatically once connectivity is restored. Full-screen artwork is now available for albums and playlists, offering a more immersive visual experience.
Accessibility Improvements
iOS 26.4 includes refinements to Apple’s Liquid Glass interface, offering greater customization options for users. A new “Reduce bright effects” setting minimizes bright flashes when interacting with elements like buttons. The “Reduce Motion” setting has been improved to more effectively reduce animations for users sensitive to screen motion. Subtitle and caption settings are now accessible directly from the captions icon while viewing media, simplifying customization and previewing options.
Other New Features
The update introduces eight new emoji characters, including a trombone, treasure chest, distorted face, hairy creature (Sasquatch), fight cloud, orca, landslide, and ballet dancer, along with new skin tone modifiers for wrestling and dancing figures. Apple’s Freeform app receives advanced image creation and editing tools, alongside a premium content library for subscribers to Apple Creator Studio. Family Sharing now allows individual members to use their own payment methods for purchases. The keyboard has also been updated with improved accuracy, addressing issues reported in previous iOS 26 releases.
Users can now mark reminders as urgent from the Quick Toolbar or through a long press, and filter for these urgent reminders. A new Ambient Music widget for Sleep, Chill, Productivity, and Wellbeing brings curated playlists to the Home Screen.
Future of Siri: AI Integration on the Horizon
While iOS 26.4 does not include the long-awaited AI-powered Siri, Apple has signaled significant changes are coming with iOS 27. Reports indicate a potential dedicated Siri app, functioning as a conversational agent across Apple devices, designed to compete with offerings like ChatGPT and Gemini. This new Siri is expected to feature a redesigned interface and integration with the Dynamic Island, displaying search status and results in a more prominent way. A “Ask Siri” button may also be added to other applications, allowing users to directly send data to the assistant for processing.
