Boy Hospitalized‌ After Being Violated Following Two-Year Online Grooming ‌Scheme

Cacilhas, Portugal ⁣ – A disturbing case of online grooming⁣ culminating in sexual assault has left a young boy hospitalized and a suspect in custody.Portuguese⁤ authorities have confirmed that a 12-year-old boy was ⁣subjected ⁢to​ a violent sexual assault in ‌May 2024 ⁢after a two-year period⁤ of⁢ manipulation ‌and trust-building by​ the perpetrator via‌ social media.

The investigation, conducted by ‍the Polícia Judiciária (PJ), ⁤revealed ⁤that ⁤the suspect⁣ initiated contact‌ with ‌the victim ⁣in 2022, sending ⁢a friend request which was accepted.Over the ensuing two years, the‌ suspect, also a minor under the ⁤age of 16,‌ systematically⁢ gained ⁤the boy’s confidence through ‍ongoing conversations online. This prolonged interaction ⁤was a key component of⁣ the ​grooming process, designed to lower the victim’s‌ defenses.

According to the PJ, the grooming escalated ⁣to​ the sharing of sexually explicit images involving minors via the WhatsApp‌ messaging platform. This⁣ ultimately led to the arrangement of an in-person​ meeting in Cacilhas in May. The victim, following the ​suspect’s instructions, traveled to Cacilhas ‍via public transportation after ⁢school.

Upon meeting, ‍the suspect persuaded⁣ the boy ‌to​ accompany ⁣him to a different ‌location. Despite‍ the victim’s resistance, authorities state the⁢ suspect ‌used physical ‌force to sexually assault him. Following the attack, the boy contacted his father, who ⁢promptly retrieved him from Cacilhas.

The‌ severity of the ‍trauma suffered by the victim was immediately apparent. During the journey home, the ​boy experienced seizures and was later admitted to the Amadora-Sintra Hospital, where he received medical care for an unspecified ⁢period.

Investigators found that the suspect actively employed⁤ deceptive tactics, including ⁢the use ‌of false profiles and‍ methods, to hinder his identification. this suggests a premeditated ⁣effort to⁢ avoid detection and accountability.

The ⁢suspect,​ who has a⁢ prior record for‌ similar offenses, is currently‌ in custody and is scheduled for his first judicial interrogation⁣ this ‍Wednesday. ‍ The ​hearing will ​focus on determining ⁤appropriate coercive​ measures to ensure‌ he ‍remains accountable ​throughout⁣ the legal proceedings.
