Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesia expressed confidence Thursday that Peru will conduct a thorough inquiry into the fatal shooting of Zetro Leonardo Purba, a staff member at the Indonesian Embassy in Lima, and bring those responsible to justice.
Foreign Minister Sugiono conveyed this trust to Peruvian Ambassador to Indonesia Luis Tsuboyama during a vigil held at the Foreign Ministry office in Jakarta. “We believe and trust the Peruvian government will do all the necesary things to resolve this issue,” Sugiono stated.
The vigil honored Purba, a junior chancery officer, who was fatally shot by an unidentified assailant near his residence in lince, Lima, on September 1. Sugiono described Purba’s death while on consular duty as a tragedy for both the foreign Ministry and the nation.
sugiono thanked the Peruvian government for its swift response and commitment to accountability, also praising Peru’s steps to enhance security for indonesian diplomats in the country. “We all hope that this matter can be resolved swiftly and leave no doubt for the bereaved family,” he added.The minister also commended Indonesian Ambassador to Peru Ricky Suhendar for his assistance to Purba’s family following the shooting and throughout the repatriation process.
Peruvian authorities initiated an investigation instantly, including an autopsy conducted on september 2. Purba’s remains arrived in Jakarta on September 9 and where taken to Gatot Subroto Central Army Hospital before his burial at Sari Mulya cemetery in South Tangerang, Banten.
The Thursday vigil was attended by Deputy Ministers Arrmanatha Nasir and Arif Havas Oegroseno, senior ministry officials, and Purba’s colleagues.
