NEW DELHI – Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed optimism regarding growing confidence in Indian manufacturing capabilities as the nation accelerates efforts to produce its first commercial computer chip before the close of 2025. The push marks a pivotal moment in india’s ambition to become a meaningful player in the global semiconductor industry and reduce its reliance on imports.
India’s foray into semiconductor manufacturing comes amid a global push to diversify supply chains and bolster domestic production, particularly in strategically crucial sectors like technology. The country aims to establish a robust semiconductor ecosystem, attracting investment and fostering innovation to create a $82 billion industry by 2030, according to government estimates. This initiative has the potential to create 100,000 direct jobs and three times as many indirect opportunities.
