February 16, 2026 Lucas Fernandez – World Editor World

Ahmedabad, India – South Africa defeated India by five wickets in a Super Eight match of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday, February 22, 2026. The match began at 05:30 local time, with South Africa successfully chasing down India’s total.

The Narendra Modi Stadium, with a seating capacity of around 132,000, hosted the contest, marking its continued role as a key venue in the tournament. The stadium previously hosted the final of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup in November 2023 and is scheduled to host the final of the T20 World Cup on March 8, 2026, should Pakistan qualify for the summit clash.

This Super Eight match was part of Group 1. Prior to this match, the stadium had already hosted Group D matches featuring South Africa against both Canada on February 9 and Afghanistan on February 11. New Zealand also faced South Africa at the venue on February 14. India previously played Netherlands at the Narendra Modi Stadium on February 18.

The ICC event, co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka, features 20 teams and runs from February 7 to March 8, 2026. The tournament format involves an initial group stage, followed by the Super Eights, with the top four teams progressing to the knockouts. The 20 participating teams were divided into four groups of five.

The Narendra Modi Stadium is also scheduled to host two further Super 8 Group 1 matches: a contest between teams X1 and X4 on February 22, and a match between teams X3 and X4 on February 26.
