New delhi: India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) today addressed concerns regarding Pakistan‘s nuclear program, affirming that its “covert and illegal nuclear activities are consistent with its past history.” This statement marks india’s first official response to recent claims made by former U.S. President Donald Trump alleging Pakistan’s past nuclear ambitions.
MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal detailed a decades-long pattern of concern, citing “smuggling, export control violations, secret partnerships, [and] the A.Q. Khan network” as foundational to Pakistan’s proliferation record. “india has always drawn the world’s attention to these aspects of Pakistan’s record,” Jaiswal stated. The MEA confirmed it has taken note of President Trump’s comments, framing them within this established context.
Beyond Pakistan, the MEA provided updates on two other fronts. Regarding Afghanistan, officials stated they are actively considering increasing the efficiency and staffing levels of the Indian Embassy in Kabul, following a recent visit by the Afghan Foreign Minister and a subsequent phone call between the two countries’ top diplomats. The former technical mission was upgraded to an embassy, and further operational details are under review.
