Independent Silent Film Festival 7.0 Showcases Global Filmmakers and Live Scores
The Independent Silent Film Festival 7.0 returns on Sunday, August 30, 2026, from 7 to 10 PM at Avogadro’s Number in Fort Collins, Colorado, showcasing international short silent films paired with live original scores by local and global musicians under the theme “Creatures & Monsters.”
The Evolution of Not-So-Silent Cinema
Live music and silent film collide once again as the Independent Silent Film Festival marks its seventh iteration. Launched in the summer of 2020 by LuneAseas during a period when pandemic restrictions brought the performing arts to a standstill, the event has expanded far beyond its improvised origins. According to event organizers, the festival was initially created to connect isolated dancers, physical performers, filmmakers, and visual artists across long distances. Creators produced short films that were handed off to independent musicians and composers to inspire original musical scores.
Over the past seven years, the gathering has supported more than 120 artists hailing from the United States, France, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and beyond. Past participants have included talent from prominent dance institutions such as Wonderbound, MOMIX, Pilobolus, Six Degrees Dance NYC, Evolving Doors, and Life/Art Dance Ensemble, alongside a sprawling roster of independent creators.
Global Filmmakers Meet Colorado Soundtracks
The 2026 lineup bridges diverse creative disciplines through an international lens. According to Eventbrite listings, the festival features short silent films from global and emerging directors including twigmedialab, David Bradburn, David Couture, colabDM, Ren Curry, Dmitry Marin, Valentina Priolo, José Crúzio, Martin Gerigk, Markus Bentsen, Michael Arche, and Austin Cole.
These visual works are paired with newly created live scores and performances. The musical roster features Quarkestra, George Sarah, Rae McAlister, Brother Saturn, Blood and Thunder, Riley Ann, Haley Harkin, Kill Your Darlings, RAGZ, and The Body of Elen West. Colorado-based musicians and collaborators receive a special spotlight during the evening.
Attendees are encouraged to embrace the “Creatures & Monsters” theme by dressing to impress in classic film star attire, dapper cinema glamour, or costume interpretations of the theme for a chance to win LuneAseas swag. Festival mascots LuneA and Tic return from the RKO junkyard to guide audiences through the evening.
