IMSS-Bienestar healthcare personnel march for labor and union rights
Workers are demanding the formal recognition of labor and union rights, unrestricted union licenses for structures recognized by the Federal Conciliation and Arbitration Tribunal, an end to interference, discrimination, and attacks against union freedom, the release of union digits on payment stubs, the participation of all structures in the integration of mixed and ladder commissions, the settlement of pending benefit compensations, and the homologation of labor benefits for the organization’s personnel. At least three unions have joined the new high-turnout protest, alongside demands for a salary increase and the supply of medical supplies following nearly a week of demonstrations, with this Wednesday marking the salary increase consultation.
Healthcare Personnel March to IMSS-Bienestar Offices
Demonstrations kicked off at 8:00 hours with healthcare personnel gathering at the Unidad de Atención a la Salud on Avenida Insurgentes Sur 1940 in the Florida neighborhood, as detailed by N+. The marching column advanced toward the central and coordination offices of IMSS-Bienestar located at Gustavo E. Campa No. 54 in the Guadalupe Inn neighborhood of the Álvaro Obregón alcaldía. Campa, and Calle Macedonio Alcalá.
Agency Prioritizes Healthcare Continuity Amid Labor Protests
The agency emphasized that the organizing labor groups operate independently from the majority union and reiterated its commitment to keeping dialogue channels open while prioritizing healthcare continuity, noting that medical care for the population has not been affected and hospitals and clinics continue to operate normally, and clarifying that the demands are labor and union-related rather than connected to the supply of medications and medical supplies. Meanwhile, parallel protests occurred outside the capital, including demonstrations by medical personnel in Xalapa demanding salary increases and addressing the closure of the 23 state-level coordinations of IMSS-Bienestar to demand the payment of owed benefits and an end to what they consider interference by the organization’s authorities in union life.
Commuters in the metropolitan area faced extensive delays, with traffic authorities routing vehicles toward alternative arteries such as Anillo Periférico, Avenida Revolución, and Avenida Universidad. While the midday opening of Avenida Insurgentes eased immediate gridlock, union representatives announced plans to remain stationed at central administrative offices until formal agreements are reached.
Unresolved Demands as Talks Continue
Negotiations between union leaders and administrative officials remain fluid as the exact timeline for resolving the pending benefit alignments and union recognition issues stays unconfirmed. Authorities have not yet disclosed the full outcome of the salary increment consultations or established a definitive agreement date for the striking workers.
