GOP Lawmakers Demand Ilhan Omar‘s Removal from Committee Following Remarks on Charlie kirk
WASHINGTON – Republican lawmakers are intensifying calls for Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., to be removed from her committee assignments following criticism of remarks she made regarding conservative activist Charlie Kirk. The controversy centers on Omar’s response to a recent incident where Kirk was allegedly assaulted, wiht Republicans accusing her of inciting violence through her language.
The escalating pressure comes as tensions remain high surrounding political rhetoric and safety, notably in the lead-up to the 2024 elections. Omar currently serves on the House Budget Committee, where she works alongside Rep. Buddy Carter, R-Ga., who is leading the charge for her removal. The situation highlights the deep partisan divide in Congress and raises questions about the boundaries of acceptable political discourse.
Rep.Buddy carter told Fox News Digital that disparaging Kirk, whom he described as a “God-fearing, honorable man,” for sharing his conservative beliefs was “nauseating.” he further stated, “The radical left has normalized meeting free speech with violence, and it must stop.” Carter specifically criticized Omar’s language as inciting violence toward political opponents, arguing that such behavior disqualifies her from serving on a committee. “No one who justifies the assassination of someone with different political views than them deserves to sit on a committee,” he said.
The incident prompting the backlash involves an alleged assault on Kirk following a speech at an event hosted by Vice President JD Vance on August 21,2025,in Peachtree City,Georgia. Details of the assault remain under investigation.
Carter, who is currently running for U.S.Senate, emphasized the seriousness of the situation, stating, “Committees are for serious lawmakers, not hate-spewing politicians.” Fox News Digital reached out to Omar’s office for comment but did not receive a response by press time.
