Igor Nikolaev and Yulia Proskuryakova Navigated Early Relationship Turmoil, Singer Reveals
MOSCOW – Singer Igor Nikolaev and his wife, Yulia Proskuryakova, weathered significant early challenges in their relationship, with Proskuryakova admitting she frequently believed arguments signaled a permanent breakup. The couple, who began dating in 2010, faced doubts and dramatic episodes as they adjusted to life together, a dynamic observed with keen interest by their inner circle.
Nikolaev, previously known for a cynical outlook following his split from Natalya Korolova, initially questioned his prospects for happiness. Though,Proskuryakova ultimately won him over,entering the relationship unconcerned with his celebrity status. “I don’t think that we are of a different status,social level,or that I don’t deserve Igor NikolaevS love,” Proskuryakova recently stated.
Despite this initial confidence, the pair experienced frequent conflict. Proskuryakova, in her first serious relationship, confessed to a pattern of overreaction. “We argued, broke up, I ran away. I think – she periodically watched us, our conflicts, with a cup of coffee,” she recalled, referencing Arkady Ukupnik’s wife, a close friend of Nikolaev, who followed their drama with fascination.
The singer described a recurring emotional cycle: “You know when you feel like everything is terrible in a relationship. Everything – it’s forever, we’re breaking up now, and it’s forever. I experienced some such emotions. Well,adjusting,as I’ve never lived with someone,but here’s a man. First serious relationship. And of course we had arguments.”
Nikolaev’s own insecurities also surfaced, as he grappled with the age difference and questioned Proskuryakova’s motivations. “Younger, younger than me – what does she want? I love her, but she wants something,” he reportedly thought, a sentiment that deeply hurt Proskuryakova. She emphasized her grounded upbringing, stating, “I come from a good loving family… I was sure that even if I marry the president, he should be a man at home and take out the garbage… I don’t need a star at home!”
