ICU Nurses Donate $23K to Help Fly Canadian⁤ Rattlesnake Bite ⁣Victim Home

REGINA, SK – A remarkable outpouring of support ⁤from ICU nurses has helped bring a Canadian ⁣man home after a near-fatal rattlesnake bite adn subsequent medical ⁤crisis in Texas. Daniel ⁢Fehr,a Saskatchewan resident, was bitten while golfing in‍ Odessa,Texas, triggering a severe allergic reaction, anaphylactic shock, and over 22 minutes of cardiac arrest before‌ being⁢ revived. He⁢ remains in a coma.

Teh critical transfer of ⁤Fehr from a Texas⁤ ICU to Regina General Hospital required a‌ specialized, ICU-equipped medical flight - a cost far beyond the family’s reach, particularly as they‍ face mounting ‍medical expenses with ‍no insurance coverage. A⁣ GoFundMe campaign ⁤launched to help cover these costs has now surpassed $50,000⁤ CAD,⁢ boosted significantly by a $23,000 donation organized by ⁣fellow ICU nurses.

“They came up big,and came up with what⁤ we couldn’t so that we‌ could bring him home,” said a grateful family member,as quoted by local news ⁤sources.Fehr’s ordeal began with the rattlesnake⁤ bite, leading to a‌ prolonged resuscitation and⁢ subsequent coma. His wife, Stephanie, and their children immediately‌ traveled to Texas, spending ⁣weeks at his bedside. ‍The family⁢ is now facing‌ substantial‍ out-of-pocket medical bills, including an initial ambulance invoice of nearly ⁢$5,000, with further charges⁤ anticipated. The nurses’ donation facilitated the complex medical transport, though a brief mix-up initially sent⁤ Fehr ‍to the wrong hospital⁤ upon⁢ arrival in Regina. He is now stable and receiving care at Regina General, with plans to move him ‌closer to his home in Swift Current once arrangements are finalized.

“I ‍was hopeless,” Stephanie ⁣Fehr shared. “I didn’t know⁣ where I’m gonna get this money from. I can’t believe how many people have stepped up to ⁤help us.”

Despite ‍the ongoing challenges, Stephanie remains focused on her husband’s recovery and is prepared to commute two hours each day to be with him. The family’s primary goal is to ‍see Daniel wake ⁢up, and having him back in Saskatchewan represents a significant step forward.

Those ‌wishing to⁢ contribute to the Fehr family’s medical expenses can do so through their GoFundMe‍ page: ⁤ https://www.gofundme.com/f/dazvdm-dannys-medical-expenses.
