RTL Tonight’s Lale Gül Claims She Was Unaware Golden Televizier-Ring Gala Was Televised, Sparking On-Air Confusion
Amsterdam - Lale Gül, broadcaster for RTL Tonight, caused a stir at this week’s Golden Televizier-Ring Gala after repeatedly filming the event on her phone, prompting questions about her behavior. Gül has now explained she was unaware the gala was being broadcast on television, a claim that led to a bewildered exchange with her co-hosts on RTL Tonight. The incident highlights the evolving relationship between media consumption and participation in live events, particularly for those actively involved in broadcasting.
During a segment on RTL Tonight, host Renze Klamer questioned Gül about her extensive use of her phone during the gala, noting the presence of numerous cameras. Gül responded, stating she was “playing the tourist” and ”didn’t even know I was on live TV, so you see me all the time as some kind of moron with that phone.” The revelation sparked disbelief from Klamer and entertainment chief Lara Zevenberg, who pointed out the broadcast was viewed by 2.5 million peopel.
“You didn’t know it was a television broadcast?” Klamer asked, to which Gül repeatedly affirmed, “No, I just didn’t know that.” Frits Wester, also present, expressed confusion, questioning why Gül woudl film an event she believed wasn’t being televised, suggesting she could simply watch it at home later.
Gül maintained she had not previously watched the gala on television and only became aware of the cameras “at some point.” Acknowledging the situation was “really embarrassing,” she conceded to being frequently visible in the broadcast with her phone. The exchange has quickly become a talking point, raising questions about awareness of live broadcasting among media personalities.
