Hwang Je-seong wept after Moon Se-yoon offered encouragement during debt struggles
Comedian Hwang Je-seong wept on a broadcast after recounting how fellow comedian Moon Se-yoon offered words of encouragement on a day family struggles and debt made things difficult, the MBN program Kim Ju-ha’s Day and Night reported.
Debt Collectors at the Studio Gates During Comedy Big League Recordings
Appearing on the October 3 afternoon broadcast alongside fellow Delicious Guys members Kim Jun-hyun, Hwang Je-seong, and Kim Hae-jun, Hwang reflected on the period when his family’s financial obligations nearly derailed his career. Hwang stated that he entered comedy to pay off mounting household debts that eventually began to squeeze his livelihood. On one particular recording day for Comedy Big League, a creditor stood outside the broadcasting station holding a protest sign, according to the MBN broadcast.
Hwang recalled experiencing severe physical anxiety, noting that his lines would not commit to memory and his limbs felt numb as if suffering from vertigo. Stage order drew closer while he struggled with his composure, contrasting his own inability to perform with the constant advice of senior colleagues who maintained that a stage must be finished regardless of personal hardship. Just before going on stage, Moon Se-yoon approached him and said, “It is an honor to do comedy in the same era as you,” prompting Hwang to break down in tears on set.
Cast Members Discuss Dynamics on Delicious Guys
The four cast members discussed the dynamics of their two-year working relationship on the 11-year-old long-running variety program Delicious Guys, which Hwang joined in May 2024 and Kim Hae-jun joined in April 2023. Kim Hae-jun mentioned that the older members frequently urged the younger staff to relax during a group trip to Jeju Island, noting that a three-to-four-hour lecture on staying comfortable ultimately made the juniors feel pressured rather than at ease. Moon Se-yoon defended the prolonged conversation by stating that he noticed Hwang’s team was running the top-ranked segment but looked visibly subdued, making him feel that offering cheerful encouragement without addressing the underlying weight would have felt insincere.
The discussion also touched on earlier bonding moments among the cast, including an incident where Hwang bit Kim Jun-hyun’s ear during a playful interaction. Kim Jun-hyun recounted that Hwang clamped down firmly as if attempting to consume a well-boiled pig’s ear, a comparison that drew laughter from host Kim Ju-ha and led Kim Jun-hyun to temporarily step away from the set in mock disbelief. Kim Jun-hyun later explained that such aggressive physical comedy is a standard method among comedians to test boundaries and secure an immediate audience reaction.
