Huskers Dominate Maryland in Straight Sets
COLLEGE PARK, MD – The Nebraska volleyball team extended its winning streak with a decisive 3-0 sweep of Maryland on Friday night. The Huskers showcased a powerful offensive performance, led by a dominant showing from their middle blockers, to secure the victory and improve to 11-1 on the season.
This win marks Nebraska’s second consecutive Big Ten Conference victory, solidifying their position as a force to be reckoned with in the league. The Huskers’ efficient hitting and strong blocking proved too much for the Terrapins, signaling a potent combination as they navigate a challenging conference schedule. The team will look to continue this momentum as they return home for their next match.
Nebraska controlled the first set,finishing with a .350 hitting percentage. Maryland kept the opening frame close initially, but the huskers pulled away behind strong serving and efficient attacks. the second set saw a late rally from the Terrapins,tying the score at 22-all,but Nebraska closed it out on their third set point.
The third set was dominated by the Huskers from the start, as they opened with a 5-0 run and never looked back. Middle blocker Andi Allick was particularly impactful, contributing four consecutive points with three kills and a block alongside Taylor Landfair.
Allick led all players with a stellar performance, consistently finding success at the net. Harper murray recorded a double-double, while Bergen Reilly orchestrated the offense, guiding the team to a .360 hitting percentage for the match.
Maryland struggled offensively, hitting just.115 as a team. Ajack malual led the Terrapins with nine kills and three blocks, but it wasn’t enough to overcome Nebraska’s balanced attack and strong defensive presence. The Huskers also dominated at the net, outblocking maryland 11-4.
