Hudson Catholic Names Former Star Stewart New Basketball Coach

by Alex Carter - Sports Editor

Hudson Catholic High School has appointed former player and assistant coach, Ron Stewart, as its new head basketball coach. Stewart takes over for Bob Mariniello, who amassed a 331-93 record over 16 seasons at the helm, leading the Hawks to eight county titles and their first North Jersey, Non-Public B championship in 41 years in 2017. Stewart, who played for Mariniello as a teenager, expressed his commitment to upholding the program’s established standard.

“I wouldn’t say it’s pressure, I would say it’s a responsibility,” Stewart stated. “Most importantly, it’s an honor and a responsibility to be in a position that I’m in. I’m going to wear this on my sleeve and I understand that it’s a privilege to coach at Hudson Catholic.

“Not too many guys get a chance to do this and I’m going to do this to the best of my ability.”
