Huawei Pura X View Launched: A Wide-Screen Alternative to Foldables
Huawei Challenges Foldables with Pura X View
Huawei has unveiled the Pura X View, a smartphone that eschews folding hinges for a wide-screen, fixed-chassis design. Marketed under the slogan “born for content,” the device aims to replicate the expansive aspect ratio of foldable handsets in a traditional form factor. The company has slated a full release for August 28, the date when official pricing and comprehensive technical specifications will be finalized.
Engineering a Slim, High-Brightness Display
The Pura X View centers on a 6.39-inch OLED panel boasting a 16:9.5 aspect ratio and a resolution of 2,232 x 1,320 pixels. Huawei claims the display hits a peak brightness of 6,500 nits. By slimming the bezels to 1.05 mm on all four sides, the company has achieved a 96.1% screen-to-body ratio.
Despite the high-density hardware, the chassis remains remarkably thin. Measuring 6.68 mm in thickness and weighing 201 grams, the device manages to house a 7,000 mAh battery. The rear profile is defined by a horizontal, capsule-shaped module containing a triple-camera system.
Debuting HarmonyOS 7
This handset serves as the launch platform for HarmonyOS 7. According to DonanımHaber, the operating system features specific optimizations designed to leverage the wider display area for multitasking and media consumption.
While Huawei has yet to confirm internal hardware, GZT reports suggest the Pura X View may utilize a Kirin 9030s chipset and a triple 50-megapixel camera array. These details remain unverified by the manufacturer. Available in red, gray, white, and black, the phone will offer configurations up to 12 GB of RAM and 1 TB of internal storage.
A Shifting Hardware Landscape
The Pura X View arrives as manufacturers experiment with radical hardware configurations to capture consumer attention. Huawei is betting that users want the wide-screen experience without the mechanical risks associated with hinges.
Other competitors are exploring different paths. Reports from TeknoBurada and Vietnam.vn indicate the upcoming OPPO Reno 18 series plans to debut a 68 MP “square selfie” camera technology, intended to eliminate the need for users to rotate their phones when taking photos. For now, Huawei has opened preliminary reservations in China, with final retail availability set for August 28.
