Huawei HarmonyOS 7: AI Features & June Launch Revealed
Huawei plans to launch HarmonyOS 7 in June 2026, with a significant focus on artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities, according to recent reports.
The upcoming operating system will introduce “prominent AI surprises,” signaling Huawei’s ambition to establish HarmonyOS as a major player in the global operating system market, competing directly with iOS and Android. The company is accelerating efforts to integrate AI across its device ecosystem, encompassing smartphones, smart home products, and potentially vehicles.
While Huawei has not yet detailed the full scope of HarmonyOS 7’s features, the emphasis on AI suggests enhancements to intelligent assistants, automation, and real-time device collaboration. Previous versions of HarmonyOS have already featured seamless cross-device interaction and AI-powered system optimization.
The launch follows a period of growth for the HarmonyOS platform. HarmonyOS 5 and 6 have collectively surpassed 50 million installations, with thousands of new devices joining the ecosystem daily. Huawei anticipates that by April 2026, the HarmonyOS app ecosystem will reach parity with those of iOS and Android.
The development of HarmonyOS 7 comes as a shift from previous plans, with initial expectations centering on a major HarmonyOS 8 release in 2026. Huawei’s long-term vision involves a unified operating system connecting multiple devices into a single intelligent ecosystem, with HarmonyOS serving as the software foundation for communication between smartphones, tablets, wearables, and other connected devices.
In February 2026, Huawei launched a developer version of HarmonyOS 6.1 to a limited group of 50,000 Chinese developers, followed by a closed beta program, Pollen Beta, featuring upgraded API 23 features across 25 models for testing. The current major version is HarmonyOS 6, released in November 2025.
