HRW Warns of Militia Abuse in Uvira, Mozambique Floods Kill 13, Sudan’s El‑Fasher Returns to Pitch

Civilians in uvira, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), face heightened risks of abuse following a takeover by militia groups, Human Rights Watch warned today. The institution reports an increase in violence and intimidation against residents since the recent escalation of conflict in the region.

Simultaneously occurring, devastating floods in southern Mozambique have claimed at least 13 lives over the past two weeks, according to Reuters. The floods have submerged numerous communities, displacing thousands and causing widespread damage to infrastructure and crops. Authorities are working to provide aid to affected populations, but access remains a significant challenge.

In a brighter note, Sudan’s El-Fasher football club has resumed playing matches, this time in al-Obeid. This return to the pitch offers a small measure of normalcy amidst the ongoing conflict and humanitarian crisis in Sudan. The club’s matches are seen as a morale boost for many Sudanese citizens.
