Nutritionist Mihaela Bilic Advocates ‘Sharing Is Caring’ to Curb Appetite and aid Weight Loss
Bucharest, romania – A simple shift in dining habits – sharing food with others – can substantially reduce food intake and support weight management, according to nutritionist Mihaela Bilic. Speaking on Europa FM’s “Frequency of Taste” program, Bilic highlighted the counterintuitive effect of communal eating, noting that individuals tend to consume less when dining with company.
Bilic explained that eating alone often leads to mindless overconsumption. “When we are alone we eat more, without knowing whether we liked it or not, without realizing whether we are tired, and we only stop when the bag is over,” she stated. This contrasts sharply with the benefits of sharing, a practice Bilic observed in less financially developed communities where communal meals are common.”I encourage you not to eat alone and to divide the food with others, because if we look at the peoples who are less elegant and evolved financially…we will see that this ‘sharing is caring’…leads to decreased quantity.”
The nutritionist further emphasized the importance of portion control, advocating for families to instill the habit of serving individual portions at the table. “When it comes to defining the portion, if we learn from the family to stay at the table and put each one on the plate an individual portion, you know that this is how the appetite is educated,” Bilic explained. This mindful approach, combined with the social aspect of shared meals, offers a practical strategy for managing appetite and fostering a healthier relationship with food.
