How African betting companies are improving user experience

August 17, 2026 Marcus Davenport Managing Editor Sport

Ask any African bettor about the modern betting experience, and most will probably tell you that it has become much easier than it used to be. What once required a visit to a physical shop can now be done in a few taps on a smartphone. But that convenience has also raised expectations. Users are no longer judging betting companies only by the markets they offer. They also notice how quickly a page loads, how easily they can find a match and what happens when they want to move money.

And one reason wagering companies can no longer ignore these expectations is that the activity has become overwhelmingly mobile. A recent GeoPoll survey of users spread across various African countries found that 95% of bettors use a mobile device to place bets. Of course, it goes without saying that most of these users expect the mobile experience to be as seamless as its desktop counterpart.

That means sportsbooks have had to rethink what the user experience actually involves. And this cuts across almost all markets on the continent. Take sports betting Tanzania, for instance. It’s no longer enough to simply make a wagering site accessible from a phone. The entire journey, from finding a market to completing a transaction, needs to feel straightforward.

Platforms are becoming mobile-friendly

As a forward-thinking business person, you always want to be where your customers are. And right now, for sports betting Tanzania, that place is clearly the smartphone. But being available on mobile is only the starting point. The bigger challenge is ensuring the experience actually works well on smaller screens.

Think about someone checking the odds for a football match while commuting or following a game that has already started. They probably don’t want to navigate through several pages before finding the market they’re looking for. They also don’t want a cluttered interface that makes it difficult to tell where to place a wager.

This is why many sportsbooks are simplifying their mobile platforms. The goal is to make important information easier to find while reducing the number of steps between opening a platform and placing a bet. Buttons need to be easy to identify, markets need to be clearly organized and pages need to load without unnecessary delays.

Modern entertainment consumers are generally impatient with mobile-unfriendly platforms. If they encounter such websites, they won’t hesitate to leave and try another option. Retail Dive has weighed in on this matter, suggesting that almost half (44%) of customers won’t return to a poorly optimized site. Such statistics are a major reason why companies targeting this region are working hard to optimize their platforms for mobile.

Payments are now part of the experience

For a bettor, depositing money is not some separate financial process that happens outside the wagering experience. It’s part of the experience itself. If a deposit takes too long to appear or a withdrawal process is difficult to understand, that frustration can affect how the entire platform is perceived.

And at a time when Africans are opening up to seamless options like credit cards, these are not experiences you want your platform to be known for. In Tanzania, for instance, digital payments have become an obvious part of everyday financial activity. According to the Bank of Tanzania’s 2025 National Payment Systems Annual Report, person-to-person mobile money transfers reached 607.71 million transactions during 2025, up from 479.11 million in 2024.

Clearly, sports betting Tanzania is operating within a population already comfortable with digital money transfers. So, if someone can transfer money through a mobile platform with relative ease, they are unlikely to be patient with a betting site that makes transactions unnecessarily complicated.

But convenience isn’t everything. Transparency matters too. A user should be able to tell whether a deposit has been completed or whether a withdrawal is still being processed. When there is uncertainty around money, even a small delay can become a much bigger source of frustration.

Platforms are adapting to different African markets

One of the greatest mistakes you could ever make is to assume that African bettors all behave in exactly the same way. Just because a Kenyan bettor prefers a particular market does not mean someone in Tanzania shares the same preference. And this is something sportsbooks operating across the continent are increasingly having to recognize.

As a result, most of them have begun adapting their platforms to the people who actually use them, rather than treating Africa as one enormous wagering market. Sports betting Tanzania is one of the markets where a lot of this is happening. Many platforms now offer their products in Swahili, making it easier for users to navigate the betting process without relying entirely on a second language.

In simple terms, because modern bettors know exactly what they want, sportsbooks have had to become much more deliberate about how they present their platforms. It is no longer enough to have hundreds of markets sitting behind a complicated interface. Users want to find what interests them without having to work too hard. And that’s why trends like localization are becoming common in this continent’s wagering sector.
