HOUSTON, Texas – A Houston lawyer who previously pleaded guilty to spiking his ex-wife’s drink with an abortion drug has been sentenced to eight years in prison after violating his probation, according to court documents filed Monday. Mason Herring, 34, was originally sentenced to 10 years of probation in 2024 for the 2022 incident.
Herring admitted to administering Misoprostol to his then-wife, Catherine herring, causing her to deliver their child 10 weeks prematurely. The couple divorced in 2022. He pleaded guilty to charges of injury to a child under 15, bodily injury, adn assault of a pregnant person. This case garnered important attention, raising concerns about reproductive coercion and domestic violence.
The prison sentence stems from two separate violations of a protective order within a 12-month period. Records indicate the violations occurred during supervised visits with his three children, including the daughter impacted by the drug.
Herring’s initial plea deal allowed him to avoid prison time, but the repeated breaches of the protective order led a judge to revoke his probation and impose the eight-year sentence.
