by Lucas Fernandez – World Editor

Houston Dynamo FC will host LAFC Saturday evening at Shell Energy Stadium, with kickoff scheduled for 7:30 p.m. CT, as both teams continue their 2026 Major League Soccer campaigns.

The Dynamo are coming off a 2-1 season-opening victory over Chicago Fire FC, fueled by a second-half brace from Brazilian attacker Guilherme in his MLS debut. That performance earned him MLSSoccer.com Team of the Matchday honors and marked the third time in Dynamo history a player has scored multiple goals in their debut, the first since 2020. Houston will aim to tie the all-time regular season series with LAFC at six wins apiece.

LAFC enters the match with a three-game win streak across all competitions, having secured a 1-0 victory over Real España on Tuesday in Concacaf Champions Cup play, advancing them to the Round of 16. Head coach Marc Dos Santos rotated his roster for that match, acknowledging a demanding schedule of four matches in twelve days. Dos Santos stated after Tuesday’s match that he wanted to rest players in preparation for Saturday’s game against Houston, aiming to field a full-strength squad.

LAFC’s roster features several high-profile players, including South Korean national team captain Son Heung-Min, French World Cup-winning goalkeeper Hugo Lloris, and former MLS Golden Boot winner Denis Bouanga. Son Heung-Min will be making his first appearance at Shell Energy Stadium and against Houston after joining LAFC in August 2025, having recorded nine goals and three assists in ten regular season matches last season. Bouanga and Lloris are returning to the stadium after previous appearances.

The last meeting between Houston and LAFC at Shell Energy Stadium resulted in a 1-0 victory for the Dynamo in April of last season, secured by a goal from U.S. Men’s National Team midfielder Jack McGlynn, which too earned him MLSSoccer.com Team of the Matchday honors.

LAFC previously built an 11-game road unbeaten streak in 2025, the longest in MLS that year, and will seek to replicate that form on Saturday.
